Father Bob, or now Pope Leo XIV, is the first American Pope in the history of the papacy. The man stood on the balcony of St. Peter’s Square, and his first words as Pope were spoken in perfect Italian, Spanish, and Latin, but not a single word was uttered in English. What a disappointment for the English-speaking world and America to have one of their own who ignores his native tongue.

I’m wondering whether Father Bob spent too much time in Peru and is going to be another Pope lecturing America on illegal immigration. The last Pope complained constantly about America not doing enough to help immigrants. Of course, Francis completely ignored the reality of the damage and carnage caused by mass immigration to host countries while he lived behind his wall at Vatican City.

I have already heard from friends and family who were disappointed, if not angry, that Pope Leo XIV did not speak a word of English. This was a lost opportunity for the new Pope to reach out in such a way. I’ll give the man some time to show me who he wants to be, but first impressions only come around once, and this was not a good sign. Reports are out that his social media feed leans left with support for open borders, and he took a shot at JD Vance.

I was baptized Catholic. I had my Penance, First Communion, did my confessions, had my Confirmation, and was married in the Catholic Church. Outside of my own Requiem, I believe I have walked with the Church my whole life. I have indefatigably waited for an American Pope that I never thought would come.

I can tell you from the bottom of my heart that realizing my mother’s sadness when she realized he was not going to speak English was indelible and haunting. Reading texts from my Catholic friends blowing up my phone about this, I could tell this dispiritedness was widespread. Not a good start for the newest Vicar of Christ. What a heartbreak it would be if the first American Pope were a leftist loon.
