June 17, 2025Iran: The Good War
Is it possible that America’s Neocons have finally found the “Right war,” or the “War of necessity,” or even the “War that had to be won,” despite themselves? Iran, unlike Iraq, Libya, or Syria, might be the war to end the “Endless Wars” in the Middle East. Can that be true? Wouldn’t that be ironic that the pressure of the populist and MAGA movement forced Neocons to get their foreign entanglements right?
Are we now at the point to get in and get out when it comes to America’s foreign footprint? Have we figured out how to defend American foreign interests without the globalist view of getting along to get along brought to us by the Clinton/Obama/Biden presidencies? Have we put to rest the Bush doctrine of bringing democracy to the world at the end of a gun barrel? Have we given up self-diluted declarations from God that we must spread Jeffersonian Democracy to the desert of the Middle East?
Iran feels different, Iran is different, and looking at the current situation through the lens of the debacles of endless wars might blur the evident truth that Iran was the one we should have handled decades ago. I know it is hard to see that through the thick fog of ineptitude that was the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. But if we put that all aside, what we are doing in Iran, even though not publicly saying we are, might be the one war that America gets a bang for its buck.
Iran is the one war America gets right despite itself. Kind of sounds nice, doesn’t it? Iran is the head of the snake of exported Islamic terrorism and beheading that viper might disperse the rest of the nest. For once in Generation X’s lifetime, I must ask, are we about to get war right? I came of age during Operation Desert Storm, and since then, war has been a disaster for my nation. Desert Storm was the only “Good War” I knew of. The rest have been a Neocon collective embarrassment of epic proportions.
My prediction: They fuck it all up, go beyond bunker buster bombs on a nuclear facility, and make a wrong turn down Regime Change Boulevard and hit a dead end once again.
