September 4, 2025Will Trump Look At Underpaid NFL Cheerleaders
The glitz and glamour of the National Football League’s sidelines have long been associated with the spirited performances of cheerleaders. These highly skilled athletes and performers are integral to the game-day experience, yet a closer look at their compensation reveals a stark contrast between their public image and their financial reality. Despite being professional entertainers for a multibillion-dollar industry, NFL cheerleaders are consistently underpaid, often earning a wage that falls far below what their dedication, physical labor, and extensive time commitment demand.
The most glaring evidence of underpayment can be seen in the cheerleaders’ low salaries, which often fail to meet even a livable wage. For many teams, cheerleaders are paid on a per-game basis, with figures often ranging from $100 to $200 per home game. When factoring in the hundreds of hours cheerleaders dedicate to practices, rehearsals, mandatory public appearances, and charitable events, their hourly wage can plummet to a rate far below the federal minimum wage.
A former Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader, for instance, once calculated her hourly earnings at an abysmal $2.85. This is in sharp contrast to the compensation of other non-player personnel, such as mascots or waterboys, who often earn significantly more. While cheerleaders for a few teams, such as the Dallas Cowboys, may earn higher salaries, this is the exception, not the rule, and their pay is still negligible in comparison to the revenue they help generate.
The stark financial disparity between cheerleaders and other NFL employees, coupled with the significant personal expenses they must bear, paints a clear picture of exploitation. Ultimately, ensuring that NFL cheerleaders are paid a fair, livable wage is not just about financial equity; it is about respecting their professionalism, recognizing their integral role in the sport, and upholding basic principles of fair labor in one of the world’s most lucrative entertainment industries. President Trump is a sports fan who brought us the USFL and tried to buy an NFL team. Maybe the president will look at what is going on with the cheerleaders.
