I wondered whether the America First movement would last as a real movement post-Trump, and Donald gave me my answer. Trump’s remark to The Atlantic shows his clear belief that “America First” means whatever “he says it means.”  The I am MAGA Hear Me Roar self-belief gives me the sign I was looking for.  Since he believes that the movement is an extension of him and not a movement he started, MAGA will not survive after Trump is unelectable due to term limits.

I have published the notion that if Trump tilts the scale of the Republican Primary for the 2028 presidency, then that would splinter the movement. I believed that if Trump tried to anoint somebody with a coronation, only a certain core group of MAGA would follow that, but not enough to sustain the movement. Any coronation of JD Vance or anybody, for that matter, would destroy the movement once and for all. Republicans are not Democrats, and they want to see a primary fight.

This was a movement of a coalition of many shades and flavors, and we can see the Tulsi, Tucker, and Bannon wing of America First is already under strain because of Iran. Musk and the people who care about American bankruptcy have been marginalized. I think it is a matter of time before MAHA is sidelined. I now believe that MAGA will self-destruct sooner, and not later, and well before the primaries come around. The people who failed to apperceive that red-hat-wearing-MAGA and America First are two different wings of the movement and who failed to perceive that MAHA is a big part of the movement as well, will be the ones shocked when it falls apart.

Putting aside betrayals of endless war, disappointment in mass deportation, unstoppable government spending, and making America healthy again there are no giant trade deals that are inked, we do not have Greenland under the fold, we do not control the Panama Canal, Canada is not the 51^st State, Trump is backing off mass deportation making allowances for hotels and farms, China is still handing us our ass due to something called TACO Trump, and now we are flirting with regime change war; so, news flash, the MAGA movement is already coming apart. When the old man only sees the movement as an extension of his personality, there is no movement, only a cult of personality. That makes me sad.
