July 14, 2025Cracks in MAGA: Trump Faces Populist Backlash
It is fair to say that six months into Trump’s second term, mid-July 2025, there are cracks in MAGA, and the coalition has started to splinter. The disappointments about what Trump’s administration is doing are starting to pile up. The splintering started with DODGE and the mistreatment of Elon Musk. President Trump did not lift a finger to codify into law what DOGE found. On top of that, Congress and Trump wiped away every cent of DOGE with the Big Beautiful Law. This Trump law codified out-of-control government spending and made it the new baseline, a new norm.
Another reason for the grassroots’ angst was that the FDA under Trump allowed, in a limited fashion, the approval of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccine for children. Many felt this opens the door for further encroachment for abuse of the vaccine. Instead of banning it until more study is done, because of all the vaccine harm it has caused, Trump’s government has approved certain uses of it.
There was an additional disappointment when talk started to float around about not deporting all of the illegal aliens and making cutouts for hospitality and farm workers. This would be a giant betrayal of MAGA on a grand scale because the whole movement was built on the concept of mass deportation.
The Trump Administration fissure between the Justice Department with Pam Bondi and the FBI with Kash Patel and Dan Bongino over transparency around Jeffrey Epstein has caused a huge argument within the America First and MAGA movement that can not be blamed on the left, but rather is something that happened within the right wing.
To top all of that off with the fact that President Donald Trump broke another promise by sending weapons to Ukraine after the Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, tried to pause it. This caused a big split within the populist movement. None of these problems were caused by or had anything to do with Democrats; they were all problems within the Trump Administration and caused by the administration.
