Fox News has been actively expanding its presence in the podcasting space, including through acquisitions and licensing deals with independent podcasts. This is part of a broader scheme to reach audiences across various digital platforms and adapt to changing media consumption habits. Some key developments are the Acquisition of Red Seat Ventures in February 2025. Fox Corporation acquired Red Seat Ventures, a company that powers direct-to-consumer media businesses for various creators, including well-known conservative personalities such as Megyn Kelly, Tucker Carlson, and Piers Morgan.
While Red Seat Ventures operates independently within Fox’s Tubi Media Group, this acquisition brings a significant portfolio of creator-led shows and a top 10 podcast network in the US under the Fox umbrella. This move signals Fox’s intention to expand its digital media presence through personality-driven, cross-platform programming, including podcasts. Many of us went to get away from cable news by going to the podcast world, and now they are hunting us down.
The licensing deal with the “Ruthless” Podcast, announced in July 2025, is another podcast acquired by Fox News Media recently. This deal aligns “Ruthless” with Fox News’ existing suite of podcasts and sees the podcast’s co-hosts become Fox News contributors. This partnership is an extension of Fox News’ brand, providing a way to capture audiences who left Fox News to consume content through podcasts.
So, why is Fox News doing this? The media landscape is evolving, with more people consuming content digitally, including through podcasts. By acquiring or partnering with popular independent podcasts, Fox News can expand its reach and acquire audiences who may not primarily watch traditional television. Leveraging the “creator economy,” as it is called, seems to be the goal. There’s a growing trend of audiences seeking information and entertainment directly from individual voices and brands they trust. Those same people wanted to get away from Fox News.
These moves are part of Fox Corporation’s overall strategy to grow its digital footprint, reaching younger audiences (Gen Z and millennials) who are increasingly digital-first in their media consumption. In essence, Fox News is actively swallowing up the podcasting sector to expand its influence in a rapidly changing media environment. Think of Fox News Media as the Pac-Man, and the independent podcasts as the dots. The dots get swallowed up as the Pac-Man moves forward to the next level.
