It is starting to be abundantly clear that moves are going on that indicate that there is going to be a coronation of J.D. Vance as the leader to carry MAGA forward into the future. If this is true, it will splinter the America First movement, and perhaps forever. MAGA has one chance to not fall apart after Trump, only one. After that, political gravity will return.

To keep this comet blazing through the political sky, MAGA can not allow President Trump, or anyone for that matter, to appoint the movement’s successor. If Trump places his hand on THAT scale, then that would reveal he does not understand this is a true movement and not just some shadow of himself. We just watched the Democrat Party do another coronation, and we all saw how that turned out.

People of all political stripes want a voice, they want a vote, and a coronation of J.D. Vance would be an attack on a historic political movement that was built one vote at a time. This is not an episode of Succession; this is real life, and real people want to pick their leaders. Yes, there is a portion of MAGA that will follow whomever Trump taps, but that is only part of the America First movement, and not enough to win a general election limping into the general with butt-hurt, pissed-off voters.

There is way too much talent on the bench in the America First movement, and to not even allow these people to compete would be foolhardy. There are those of us who want to see Ron DeSantis, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and many others fight for the nomination the old-fashioned way. If J.D. is the guy, let him fight for it. If people take that away from us, the movement will split into many factions.

There are too many assumptions that are floating around about the America First movement. The talk that MAGA will stay with Trump if he is tricked into more endless wars is flat wrong. There are demarcations with MAHA, endless war, and coronations that would destroy the America First movement permanently. The fray has already started with the crushing disappointment of not codifying DOGE into law. You add more war, or a primary coronation, and the America First movement is over.
