My favorite format for political shows are round table type shows that have different people giving different opinions. Shows like The Five and Outnumbered are examples of shows I watch. I enjoy the debate and the back and forth banter. A few weeks ago, I came across S.E. Cupp’s show on HLN called Unfiltered. It came on at 7 p.m. and I got hooked watching it. Then HLN changed the time of the show to 5 p.m. directly competing with Fox’s show, The Five.
So, at 5 p.m. I can watch, live, one of these shows and tape the other and watch it later. What I realized was I thought I was a big The Five fan, but head to head with S.E. Cupp Unfiltered, I find myself watching that instead of The Five. It’s just a better show and I was surprised that I leaned that way. I’m not sure how the ratings will pan out. The Five had a period where the show was changed to 9 p.m. but that failed. During that period, I rarely got to see The Five. It was a stupid network decision to even try that. I heard that they were back at the number one spot in the ratings on cable at 5 p.m., but with S.E. Cupp Unfiltered that might change.
No one I know watches HLN; I found it by accident, but if you like The Five, go check out S.E.’s show and tell me what you think. I think you might find, like I do, that it really is a better show. For me, I still love The Five, but head to head live, I go with S.E. Cupp Unfiltered. See if you do too. HLN show realize that if you put more balanced political shows on air that they would get higher ratings. Heaven knows CNN and MSNBC are unwatchable.
