This gruesome footage of a great white shark feasting on the tasty flesh of a dead whale might send a chill down your spine.

If you’re the type to avoid the sea out of fear of what lurks underwater, this probably won’t help you get over that.

The gruesome video of the hungry shark was taken by passengers aboard a private whale watching boat in Boston, US.

The shark clearly thought he’d hit the jackpot when he spotted the dead animal floating lifelessly in the water.

It approaches it prey slowly and cautiously, before reaching up and clamping its jaws around its tail.

As it gobbles the meaty flesh it ducks back under the water, savouring the feast.

While one of the sharks swam away when they pulled up, the other was clearly far too hungry to notice they were there.

The mink whale is believed to have died after getting tangled in fishing gear.

Chad Avellar, owner of SeaSalt Charters, which runs private whale watching and fishing charters in Provincetown, Boston, took customers out to sea when he spotted the scene.

He told Boston.com that despite going on thousands of whale watches in his lifetime, he’d never seen anything like it.
