In a shocking video released was a police officer in Oakland, at at pointblank, murdering a subdued man. This video is horrible to look at. Taped by four different people at the scene, the officer murders a man in cold blood on video. There was no room for interpretation at all. He clearly murdered this man in cold blood. There is nothing left to chance or ponder, a cop just killed this guy.
I watched this video for the first time with a group of people. What caught my eye was the level of desensitivity we, as Americans, have just letting something like that just roll off our shoulders. The group I was with was shocked when viewing this, but it only took sixty seconds before acting like it was no big deal. With in one minute, the subject was changed and this was not in any one’s mind anymore. It made me think. How far have we, as Americans, come with the disrespect and utter apathy for human life. The respect for life has fallen down a rabbit hole never to return again. It saddens me.
Cops murdering people on the evening news, abortion, and euthanasia have, among other things, made us almost numb to the violence. We’ve all heard this before, but it is getting worse. Another thing that never seems to end is some police force somewhere in America doing some wicked thing, over and over again.
We hear the mantra, “Not all cops are bad.” Then we get hit with one city after the other having some rogue cop going off into some utter darkness and depravity. When it becomes okay or common place that we can just watch murder on our TVs while eating a bag of chips, it is time to think about respect for human life and God himself. Time to truly think about why we are here. What is the meaning of life? Maybe it time for a introspective soul search. Time to demand that every human life has value.
